“Since its original release 4 years ago, Rise of Flight has won hearts of thousands of WWI aviation fans and has been showered with some great awards and recognition. Thanks to constant support of our players we keep on working on the game’s content and its essential features bringing them the best WWI flight-sim experience ever. Today we’re pleased to announce that Rise of Flight will soon be available on Steam. This means more players from all around the world can take part in the most realistically re-created air battle experience of the First World War on their PC.
It should be noted that the release of ROF:CBE on Steam will have no impact on the operation of ROF for existing non-Steam users. Also, Steam users will be able to fly with you in ROF multiplayer servers. We know that the existing ROF community will make new Steam users feel welcome!”
DCS and the UH-1H is SMOKIN RED HOT! [GS] 8/10
Gotta love watching those barrels spin and turn red.. excellent!
Combat Assault Horizon Enhanced Version for PC is out.
But.. this is a video for Xbox version that explains the game pretty well.
I was given this game and its crazy fun for a short spurt from Simulations like DCS.. [GS] 7/10
How could you NOT want to FLY!!

DCS UH-1H Huey now released! (4/30/13)
This is looking sweeeeeet… Been looking forward to this release from the third party supporting it! I was not disappointed! Real Life Huey pilots are saying it feels like the real deal! Put some Vietnam songs on in the background and enjoy the sights and flights [GS] 8/10
DCS has moved to DCS World (Free download) and making all additions module form… Although the engine might be a bit dated, their flight dynamics are the top of the heap!
Now let me take a moment to give FSX a nod when it comes to taking items and displays and just dragging them to other locations or screens outside the running program for use while still running the program. DCS is not capable of doing this directly from the company itself.. but.. indirectly it is capable. The nice thing about the DCS series is the community involvement! The community has taken it upon themselves to make Ipad apps and multi monitor configurations such as Helios etc. to get around that limitation.
Leonpo has even made an application that allows cheap Androids that run Android 4.0.3 or better to share in the extension of the title and can be found in the goggle play store. So far P51 and Huey models being worked on. I can see spending 50 bucks for headsup display much more within the bargain gaming price than using a 300-400 dollar Ipad. But, we all have our likes and money pockets for the big boy toys upto and including homemade cockpits..
I have a very personal like for the huey.. The helicopter was developed by Bell Helicopter to meet the United States Army’s requirement for a medical evacuation and utility helicopter in 1952, and first flew on 20 October 1956. My Brother was a gunner in one for the Marines in Vietnam and talked of it till the day he died.. r.i.p. brother.. I hope some gifted skinner can make a nice VMO-2 Marine skin (VS callsign) for this Huey soon after release..
DCS Flaming Cliffs 3 is out in Beta soon full release!
It’s up to YOU to bring this games immersion to life!
If you remember lockon.. then remember the other flaming cliffs.. you will be impressed with Flaming cliffs 3.. Beta ending soon.. full release with price increase comming.. worth it at either price! [GS] 8/10
“Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 3 (FC3) is the next evolution of the Flaming Cliffs series. FC3 features the F-15C, A-10A, Su-27, Su-33, MiG-29A, MiG-29S and Su-25. FC3 aircraft provide an easy learning curve for new players and focuses on a broad range of aircraft rather than a detailed single aircraft. FC3 adds a number of new features and improvements to previous versions of the Flaming Cliffs series. FC3 is a module of DCS World, which makes it compatible with all other DCS: World titles like A-10C, Black Shark 2, P-51D, and Combined Arms.”
The F15 c Alone is worth the adventure..
be prepared to “learn” a bit..
WarThunder – World of Planes now in Beta!
As a sign of gratitude for their interest in our previous flight simulation game, we’ve invited all owners of Wings of Prey to participate in the closed beta test. Invitees also include all of War Thunder’s alpha testers, as well as a group of fans who have supported us throughout War Thunder’s development. I got a beta key.. been playing it.. but I can’t mention anything about it.. sigh..
Birds of Steel – Xbox 360
Hold on to your flight jacket – The bar has been RAISED!
It’s hard for an old PC Gamer to admit it.. but I do play some titles on the game consoles.
This is the only flight game I play on the Xbox and from the same makers of Wings of Prey(got on pc) and actually setup better. I am assuming this is what Warthunder is going to be on a larger scale. There are just over 100 classic planes in Birds of Steel. With Birds of Steel you finally get a simulator for a console. Takeoffs, flaps, cockpit, flight dynamics etc. etc.. it’s all there. While there is an included ‘simplistic’ difficulty setting, the fun begins at the realistic and especially simulator modes.
Be prepared for white knuckle carrier landings in pitching seas, modify prop pitches, trims, mixtures while trying to get a shot at the enemy and being shot at. Marvel as your engine cuts off after you’ve pulled negative G’s and you frantically attempt to restart it as you spin and plummet to earth. At high speeds the close combat is exhilirating, the damage modeling is amazing and the game is just simply one that is quality through and through. The cut scenes and historical content is interesting and comes with Eastern, Western and Pacific theatres of war in Multiplayer and Pacific in Campaign..
You have single player, coop play and 16 player online and it’s setup better for team vs team then “Wings of Prey” on the PC actually.. If you have an Xbox for the kids or grandbabies.. Grab this title for when they are not playing on it, kick back in the recliner, blast it on the wall with the projector and enjoy your night of flight and fight! The exceedingly powerful mission editor included with the game, means the lifespan of this game is entirely up to you. [GS] 9/10
(note: Please don’t let my PC Friends know I been playing this…shhhh but get it if you own a console!)
Take on Helicopters: Hinds 3/15/2012
Oh come on.. this is such a lame addon.. and at 17 bucks?
I got it..and thought..What the….
Look, Take on Helicopters was..”ok” for the included Seattle skyline and a bit different from the run of the mill fighters. Adding this Hinds should have either been Bundle FREE to promote ToH or a total of 5.99 tops to those already owning.. We are paying to be some sort of weird beta team? turning a civi commercial heli game into Arma 3? pathetic at best.
Just 4 challenges? ok, some random reloads.. But maybe a bit of time making hinds war in downtown Seattle would have made some impact..but this? total waste.. And dont tell me to go make my own scenario.. Companies just dish this stuff out these days.. no time invested in thought. Shame on you BI!! I own all of BI stuff..but the buck just stopped here..
Theres a good possibility I woke on the wrong side of bed.. I dunno.. it just seems a bit gimped to me.. yes, random missions.. but even the killing is kinda bored… let’s see.. goto autohover.. have gunner kill or goto manual and shoot.. release autohover.. set trim.. find next.. autohover.. kill.. next, unset autohover..set trim.. I guess I need to find some multiplayer to see if this gets any better.. controls seem over sensitve and sometimes..reversed and un responsive.. it’s just a give and take.. sigh.. dunno what I was hoping for.. just didn’t find it here.. [GS] 6/10
Micro$oft$ “Flight” has been released. It’s a “free” download with a catch. Two basic planes and one Island, the rest you will pay for and no third party content available.
Micro$oft$ Flight has fairly good graphics and a few dumb down planes that actually feel pretty good in a crosswind. The higher challenges are actually a challenge. You can try it yourself and decide. download it for FREE here , please don’t let them sucker you into buying anything to go with it till they add in the normal flight sim/game options (TrackIR for one) the OLD FS had!
People have actually started companies off of the older MS flight programs while leaving MS out of that loop. So, I guess now MS is taking on the addons themselves. All depends on how you look at it. I easily have $300.00 in FSX addons.. time will tell.. right now this is a very good graphic and performance update compared to older MS flight games. It is also easy enough on the lower levels for those new to flight games to have a chance getting into the air. From all indications TrackIR is coming and so is air and ground traffic to this otherwise dead world of FLIGHT… time will tell. [GS] 7/10
IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover
Finally!! available July 19th, 2011 in USA! (date seems to change)
BUT: reading forums, this has become a big flop with many many bugs. meh, updates already comming. Latest patch has made it play much better and Multiplayer games are poping up. Much more work still needed though and I guess the only part of survival connected is using a compass on plane. Well, when your shot down you can use that parachute for a hammock!
Update: Three months later, this flight sim is in it’s second beta release 1.04.xxxx and is staring to come alive. Much more work is needed and I could not suggest it to anyone at this time. With that said, I am able to fly some missions now and the sound and sights are just simply amazing when it works. Hopefully within a year this will be a solid flight simulator with lots to offer, like the original IL-2. Those that can “honestly” remember the originals release, it took a few years for it to shine. Flight simmers are a patient group and have short memory relapse quite often. To this day, the original is still a sloppy mod added and hyperlobby fiasco to get it to look and feel like the great game it’s bragged about online. Hours are spent adding in mods and finding the group to fly with. But, that’s the life of an online flight simmer. Hang in there Oleg fans, this game will shine in your memories someday and like the original, is slated for future use of PC gamers! [GS] 8/10
Apache Air Assault
turns out to be a nice campaign game although a bit arcadish.
Not a bad little helicopter game from the creators of Wings of Prey
The strange thing ofcourse, the xbox and PS3 reviews whine it might be to hard to fly. And, when you look up PC reviews these days, they also bash it for being more sim than arcade. This is not a sim! It’s has just enough to make it feel more real than arcadish! This would be the balance of both versions. I guess all reviewers these days are just the same “now old” run-n-gun easy killers with little time or skills to learn. Sigh, I guess learning more than running around like the same idiots is to much for some to do these days.
To further add to the gameplay, the game also offers a Free Flight mode in which you get to adjust the elements at play (snow at night gets tough) and take on the battles of your choosing. You set the number of troops, the location, your vehicle and get to work. It’s a nice way to challenge the skills you’ve built up through the campaign.Apache: Air Assault is a new combat flight simulation game based on the Apache AH-64D Longbow attack helicopter. The player takes on the role of three distinct Apache crews that each deal with what at first appears to be localized enemy activity, but eventually reveals itself to be part of the larger plan. The gameplay intercuts back and forth between the three crews as the action and stakes escalate.
Apache: Air Assault features 16 multi-stage missions involving air and ground strike operations off the coast of Africa, the mountains of the Middle East and the jungles of Central America, each meticulously created using high resolution map data from real-world satellite photography. Apache helicopters are some of the most sophisticated combat aircraft on the planet — the player gets to fly multiple variations of them, each with their own extreme firepower and highly-detailed damage modeling. [GS] 7/10
DCS: A-10C Warthog is a PC simulation of the U.S. premier Close Air Support attack aircraft. This is the second aircraft in the DCS series, following DCS: Black Shark, and raises the bar even higher in the DCS series. Warthog brings the most realistic PC simulation of a modern fixed wing combat aircraft in regards to flight dynamics, avionics, sensors, and weapon systems. You also have the option to play Warthog in “Game” mode for a casual game experience. Fly missions in the Caucuses region of the Black Sea against and with a wide array of air, land and sea forces with new and improved intelligence. Create your own missions and campaigns with the included Mission and Campaign Editors, and fly with and against friends online using the included online game browser.
This is apparently marketed for the 64bit computers now although I run mine fine under a win7 32bit system so be warned.[GS] 8/10
There is now a BlackShark 2 out which is an update on graphics and makes it compatable with the A10c online games plus you now have the fast mission builder for unlimited replay! it is also suggested for 64bit windows systems once again. [GS] 8/10
Info for those with capable 32bit systems:
Setting your 32 bit system up to 64 bit standards they limit you from is not that hard. they do it for some that may get CTD’s etc..but some of us don’t have those problems with A10c or BS2. it has nothing to do with 64bit compared to 32 bit.
In fact, the system they use is pretty old and only recently uses 2 threads of your CPU.. the old FC2 and BS1 use but 1 thread. but, I don’t know this for fact.. Im not very bright about this stuff like those that claim you must use a 64 bit system with DCS games..sigh..but my 4 gig system memory usually has about a gig left while running the games also.. sigh..
Do this at your own risk and if your system does crash don’t blame ED or Me actually.. it’s your choice and only yours!
This may or may not work for you..it works for me..
I only have a little Win7 32bit OS, AMD 3.0ghz 4core cpu, Nvidia 560 graphics card with 4 gigs memory..
Anyone whos system meets this or better “can or may be” able to turn all those settings back on without trouble.
use the 3 gig expander command
goto a DOS window by typing CMD into your “search programs and files”
type bcdedit /set increaseuserva 3072 and press enter and reboot..
if you wish to reverse this command back to default, simply use “bcdedit /deletevalue increaseuserva” and reboot..
A10c: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS a-10c warthog\MissionEditor\data\scripts
BS2: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS Black Shark 2\MissionEditor\data\scripts
find a file called optionsData.lua and MAKE A COPY of it..
once you have a safe copy.. with Notepad++ edit the file starting at line 265.
change all the “onlyArch64 = true” to “onlyArch64 = false” and HDR , Cockpit shadows etc will be available as option settings once again.
Do this at your own risk and if your system does crash revert back to your SAVED COPY and chaulk it up as an experiment into your system. Your 32bit system is now equal to their 64bit..sigh..
lol, honestly..yes 64 bit “is” better in the long run for addressing large system memory “limited” on Windows 32bit OS.. but this gets “us” with 32 bit in the playing field without having to upgrade. There is no game out there to date worthy of 64bit “only” status.
To be even more honest.. those 64 bit home computers..are not really true 64bit..but that’s another story.. and your 32bit cpu..can actually access a 64 bit bus.. again..another story… But I don’t know as much as others around here..i am just guessing at all this stuff.. Im old.. like 64bit systems are.. ya know they been around since the 70′s right? So why are they not used more? well, that’s another story.. but they are finally gaining ground..

Microsofts Flight Simulator X, This “Sim” is just a blast offline and on. Set up a flight plan, take off..
enjoy the views, watch a movie on the side, and come back to the game to land. You never know when you might need to “know” how to fly a plane. Pass the “new” FLIGHT(garbage) from Micro$oft and get this version. It’s dated and still worth it! [GS] 8/10

Took a look at H.A.W.X. 2… nice game, little to much gamey but nice. [GS] 7/10
Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 1,2,3.. Come on Microsoft.. we need a 4!!
CFS was actually a pretty good series.. I do not know why Microsoft has abandon it..
It may be “dated”.. but it had it all including “mod capable” as this FirePower addon shows. They really need to get some action back into their flight plans… this isn’t some “liberal” thing.. its gameplay for Adults… lets get with it with a large scale online battlefield and DX11 already.. you know you can do it MS.. [GS]7/10
